A Child's Christmas Carol
by Stephen, revised with Naomi
A child’s Christmas in my heart
Anticipation from the start
Sleigh bells ring in my mind
presents soon I’ll find
A busy town with glowing light
So many travelling through the night.
Greetings come and greetings go
You were there before the world began
You are God’s own very special man
Jesus, heavenly man, born as a child
Dying for our peace,
we sing our praises to you,
born in a manger for us.

(old version had 'stable' instead of manger but Bible makes no ref to a stable, just that there was no room in the 'guest room!')
And as we live our lives today
So many people lost their way
Still no room at our inn,
Peace lost in the din.
On Bethlehem’s streets tonight
Young children still they look for life
Israel’s tanks can come and go
Just like Herod’s brutal men of war
What is all this senseless killing for?
Jesus, heavenly man, born as a child
Into our war zones.
We’ll sing our praises to you
Dying to bring something new
Jesus, come into our hearts
Where we are empty bring us your fullness
Jesus our world needs you now
come Lord and make us like you. Stephen Newell Nov 04

About the Carol
A hymn written originally many years ago, revised with Naomi, sadly it is still totally relevant to the situation in the Holy Land, as of Christmas 2024

The carol moves between three locations, a present day child's anticipation of celebration and presents, alongside the harsh reality of war in the 'holy land.' Of course these two present realities are imagined alongside the Christmas story of Messiah/Christ born in a borrowed room in Roman occupied Bethlehem some 2000 years ago.
