God the Invisible..

by Naomi and Stephen

1. God the invisible, hearts search to find you.
Knowledge and intellect can't quite explain.

Creation's voice whispers in our ears
As her beauty draws near, "Find me here!"

2. God, so intangible, how can we know you?
Hurting, our wounded lives turn us away.

'Til stories speak of the One made flesh
by the wounds of a nail. Love won't fail.

3. God of our loneliness, we're lost without you.
Frail our communities, hopes unfulfilled.

Lift up your voice! Call your children home
to your love filled with grace. Show your face!

4. God now made visible; in Christ we see you.
Untangling mysteries, dying to show:

your love can wash all our fear away;
you restore family. Set us free

About the Hymn

We wrote this hymn, to acknowledge the deep mystery there is in the act of faith.

Some words taken from The Northumbria Community, Celtic Daily Prayer illustrate this truth:

Gregory of Nyssa put it well: ‘To find God is to seek Him unceasingly. Here indeed, to seek not one thing and to find another. The reward of the search is to go on searching.’ In other words, there is life in the longing itself.

 also:

Teresa of Avila wrote ‘It’s not with many thoughts or words that He hears us but in the silence of our longing.’

So we invite people to use this hymn to acknowledge our searching and yet to know that in Christ, through the wounds of a nail, his love draws near.
